modern water from britain and hangzhou water treatment technology development center co ltd (hwtt) signed a cooperation agreement in hangzhou on dec 4 to move forward on osmosis technology for seawater desalination.
modern water is listed on the aim market of the london stock exchange. the company owns core technologies for seawater desalination and international patents on forward osmosis technologies, and is the only company in the world to operate fo seawater desalination plants. hwtt is one of the earliest units specializing in seawater desalination, the membrane-based water treatment technology, product development, engineering design, production and system integration, and is the largest equipment supplier and engineering contractor for seawater desalination and membrane-based water treatment in the country.
the deal, signed by hwtt general manager zheng genjiang and modern water executive president neil mcdougall, paves the way to carry out full-scale cooperation.
forward osmosis is globally recognized advanced technology that holds such advantages as low energy consumption, high efficiency, low operation costs and long life-span for membrane used. the market potential is huge in sectors such as seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, and use of reclaimed water, chemical separation and concentration process, and development and utilization of energy. the technology has not yet been applied to china.
the two companies will promote application of this technology in china’s seawater desalination and water treatment, which is expected to bring new business opportunities.
