safety is our number one priority. in supporting this, the safety committee at our site created a special area called a "dojo" to help us to educate and inspire our employees to learn and remain focused on safety at all times.
a dojo is a japanese name for a training center. the safety committee at our york, sc plant suggested the idea of creating a dojo that was focused on safety. the end result is a terrific area for all employees to learn about a number of important subjects that affect their wellbeing as well as that of their coworkers. the safety dojo can have up to 20 training stations. the stations launched this summer include:
•personal protective equipment (ppe)
•fall protection
•global harmonized sytem (ghs)
•toxic substances control act (tsca)
•lockout/tagout (loto)
•ergonomics
•knife safety
•global safety
•stress management
•home safety
each year, there will be changes made to the dojo, with an emphasis being put on the weaknesses from the previous year as well as adding topics of interest to the team. this will enable continuous learning, awareness and improvement in the performance of our work and home activities.
since there is no substitute for hands-on training when it comes to fostering a culture of safety at the plant, a safety dojo gives team members the opportunity to improve their awareness of safety. the annual review of the dojo and regular refresher training are expected to promote continuous safety improvement.
creating an effective safety culture is an ongoing process and is a large commitment on behalf of the entire company; however, the efforts result in a positive attitude toward safety and a reduction in accidents and incidents. the dojo space at bluestar provides information focused on safety, as well as on quality and environmental protection.
