the 62nd annual meeting of the international organization for the standardization technical committee on plastics was held in suzhou from sept 8 to 14. the meeting was sponsored by the standardization administration of china and co-hosted by sinopec, petrochina and zhonglan chengguang. the meeting welcomed more than 200 participants from over 20 countries.
participants had in-depth discussions about more than 90 standards, including the carbon footprint of plastic and plastic products, plastic terminology, plastic fire resistance test methods, bio-plastics test methods and polystyrene. chinese participants proposed five new standards, such as the pval (part i): nomenclature and classification foundation by zhonglan chengguang, the porous cross-linked sodium polyacrylate for high-absorbency resin for blood (part i): test methods, and (part ii): general requirements (both by shandong haoyue group).
the meeting improved china’s status and popularity in the international plastics industry, and set up a good communication platform between domestic and international famous enterprises. at the same time, it has enabled more chinese standardization workers to become involved in making international plastic standards, allowing domestic company representatives to have a clearer picture of the development of international plastic standards. in this way, they can put forward china’s opinions and requirements while absorbing foreign advanced technology standards, providing a good opportunity for chinese technical standards to merge with international standards.
