adisseo, a world leader in the production of nutritional supplements for cattle, pigs and poultry, has confirmed it will take over the ipbb sulfur terminal in bayonne, including its import, export and sulfur smelting operations, starting july 1, 2016. the plant’s new operations manager will be jean-michel gaulon.

this transaction with sogebi, industrial sites management in the pyrenees-atlantiques, will enable adisseo to maximize its supply of liquid sulfur, the raw material involved in the synthesis of methionine, an essential nutrient in which adisseo specializes. sogebi will focus on its core activities on the bassin de lacq and facilitate the takeover of the bayonne site, which has a significant impact on the local economy.

sogebi has supplied adisseo’s site in les roches with liquid sulfur since 2013. through this takeover, the group will strengthen the upstream integration of its methionine production activities. it will also improve its reliability, lower its production costs and increase its operational effectiveness to ultimately strengthen the competitiveness of the entire european methionine chain, while guaranteeing a stable supply to its clients.

this move also emphasizes adisseo’s commitment to employment, investment and the sustainable development of french industrial activity. up to €10 million will be invested over the coming two or three years to consolidate the site’s operational and environmental performance. by ensuring the continuity of the terminal and maintaining all of its current suppliers’ contracts, adisseo is supporting the 20 to 30 direct and indirect jobs that are dependent on the plant’s activity. moreover, two security and maintenance specialists will be taken on to support the site’s transition.

“this transfer is one of the axes of the recovery plan of our company. we are pleased to

intrust our facilities to a responsible partner. we are committed to deliver effective support as part of this business recovery.”says gilles noguerol, ceo of sogebi.

“maintaining the terminal’s activity is essential to securing our methionine production. we are delighted with the warm welcome that has been extended to us by the port of bayonne, the cci, the town hall in anglet and the aquitaine-limousin-poitou-charente region. we are delighted to be able to support the industrial fabric of the local area,” stresses jean-marc dublanc, ceo of adisseo.
