i was always fascinated by the beautiful winter scenery in north china described by chairman mao. i was amazed by our country’s magnificent landscape sceneries.
i heard that the scenery in the summer is just as beautiful as in the winter. i was so excited when i found out we would visit the mutianyu section of the great wall during summer camp.
after breakfast, we took a bus to the foot of the mountain where the great wall is located. the inscription of the great wall’s name jumped out at us. there was still a distance to mutianyu, and we had to walk up to reach it. on our way, the teacher told us that the mutianyu and badaling sections of the great wall are both open to the public. mutianyu runs from juyongguan in the west to gubeikou in the east and was built at the beginning of the ming dynasty (1368-1644). it is a cultural treasure in china.
after climbing countless steps, we finally made it to the top. we were covered in sweat. stretching out into the distance, the great wall resembled a huge dragon reclining along the tortuous mountain peaks.
standing on smoke towers, we were surrounded by verdant trees on all sides. we took in the beautiful scenery surrounding us. the majestic and firm great wall and the mountains and trees together formed a protective border for our country against the violent xiongnu nomads.
on our way back, we ran into many foreign visitors. the great wall not only harbors china’s civilization, but also shows china to the world, acting as a bridge between china and other countries.
